A Network To Build Chicago Arts Audiences

September 15, 2010

The Dialogue: The MCA Chicago’s annual conversation on museums, diversity, and inclusion

Presented by Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago

Profound changes in demographics, modes of cultural participation, and approaches to social interaction and community creation are making accessible, inclusive, and diverse cultural institutions more possible and more necessary than ever. What does an architecture of participation look like at a civically-minded, contemporary art museum?

Madeleine Grynsztejn, Pritzker Director at the Museum of Contemporary Art, introduces us to two leading voices on inclusion in the cultural community: museum advisor Elaine Heumann Gurian and artist Mark Bradford. During this incredible evening of conversation, the notion of participation as it relates to museums, artists, and audiences will be considered.

You will have the opportunity to share your thoughts in the second half of the evening, as we break the traditional lecture mold to create a living dialogue, as audience members respond to questions asked and ideas presented.

The program starts at 6pm and is followed by a ticketed cocktail reception from 8 to 9pm
