A Network To Build Chicago Arts Audiences

February 16, 2011

The Five E’s of Experience Design

A free AEE Learning Circle

Presented by Arts Engagement Exchange in partnership with Illinois Institute of Technology, Institute of Design

Engaging an audience today means much more than putting on a great show. Artistic quality is critical, but other factors also influence and shape future ticket purchases and repeat visits.

This AEE Learning Circle, taught by faculty member Hugh Musick of the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute of Design (ID), will investigate ways to cultivate lasting relationships with your audience that will keep them connected and involved. You will explore ID’s “Five E’s” model of the customer’s experience, looking at the audience’s journey beyond the actual visit to include activities that occur before, during, and after the program, show, or exhibition.

For over 50 years ID has trained top leaders and corporations in the most advanced, practical design methods and tools to create innovative solutions to problems.  Held at the Institute of Design, this workshop will be open to arts organizations for the first time. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from ID’s groundbreaking and highly sought after instruction that combines both traditional methods of training and creative prototyping to help your organization redesign your audience’s experiences in a hands-on way.

You will come away with:

  • A better understanding of the audience’s experiences
  • A broader understanding of  your organization’s touch points that offer opportunities for long term relationship building with your audience
  • Best practices for user-centered design to foster engaging audience experiences
  • A tested prototype for a new model to audience engagement that you can put into practice

This Learning Circle will be conducted over two half-day sessions, and organizations are encouraged to send two people—a creative and an administrative leader. Due to the Learning Circle's topic and structure, organizations must meet prerequisites in order to participate. Organizations must have a budget under $1million, a paid staff with at least one full-time employee, and the organization must regularly produce and/or present public programming.
