Website Principles for the Rest of Us
A Workshop
Presented by The Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management
You probably know this already, but chances are your website could use some work— whether it’s just a little fresh content or a total overhaul. But how to get started? Understanding the questions to ask and the principles to follow will help you strategize, initiate next steps, and take better advantage of your website.
This workshop isn’t for web professionals, and it won’t turn you into one, but anyone who wants to get more out of a website—for business, nonprofit, church, or family—can benefit from the principles and roadmap we’ll cover. We’ll talk about creating effective, appealing content (including the importance of visuals); helping readers find you (and find their way around once they do); getting the most out of some “readymade” options; and how to talk with technical and design folks you may partner with.
Instructor:
Jonathan Boyd, Ph.D., is online media manager in admissions at North Park University, coming to the University after a decade working on national events and technology with the nonprofit InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He is a former senior editor at Britannica.com and holds a doctorate in history from Johns Hopkins University. It’s a good day when he gets to play around with some new technology and figure out whether it’s actually good for anything.
