A Network To Build Chicago Arts Audiences

March 31, 2025

Building Successful Campaigns

A Workshop

Presented by Community Media Workshop

Issue campaigns are exercises in storytelling.  Like any good book, they need a narrative that resonates with the audience; a simple theme that encapsulates all the action; sympathetic characters trying to do the right thing; and a bad guy who needs to be kept in check.  This training will spotlight campaign techniques and tactics that work. With: Mike Truppa, Mike Truppa Communications

Participants will learn:

  • How to maintain message consistency across a broad coalition.
  • How to maximize media coverage, identify universal themes, and define the opposition.
  • How to combine various tactics and communications strategies to run a successful issue campaign that gets results.

About Trainer Mike Truppa

Trained as a journalist, Mike Truppa has harnessed the communications skills he practiced in the media to advance causes that he embraces. He has spent nearly two decades helping organizations locally, regionally and nationally communicate about a range of progressive issues, including consumer protection, economic equality, civil rights, environmental preservation, charitable health care and affordable housing. He has directed communications for Chicago-based Environment Law and Policy Center and the Chicago Housing Authority.  He also spent five years as vice president of a boutique public relations firm catering to nonprofits, government agencies and foundations pursuing progressive ideals.  He currently serves those clients as an independent communications consultant.
